I bet it's worth a single digit percentage of its original purchase price. And it's got the cambiocorsa shifter for enhanced repair costs

Those are very good, underappreciated cars. The mechanical underpinnings are that of the 2nd gen Legend. This generation of RL should be more properly thought of as the final evolution of the Legend.
When they were new, they rightly got panned for still rocking a 4-speed auto and a then pretty aged C-series V6 that got fuel economy much more appropriate for the early 90's than the late 90's. That said, a clean one of these would be a fantastic used car for not much money today.

You make a good point about the reviews at the time. And it doesn't matter now at all if my 20 year old car gets the mileage of a 25 year old car, if I'm just getting a cool neo-classic in great shape

It still has a timing belt, but at least the V6 is longitudinal and not transverse, so should be easier to work on
